Advantage - Usage and Tolerability

How often should/can I use Advantage?

A single Advantage treatment will provide at least one month flea control on dogs and up to one month on cats. If dermal conditions require frequent bathing, Advantage can be used as often as once a week.

Can I use Advantage year-round?

Advantage can be used year-round and it is especially beneficial in areas of the country where fleas are a constant problem. Otherwise, it is recommended you begin using Advantage several weeks before the flea season starts and continue until the flea season is over. Just ask your veterinarian for more information or (for USA) consult our Flea Index.

Is Advantage a potential hazard to pets?

No. Advantage is backed by extensive and thorough domestic animal safety studies which show even when administered at five times the target therapeutic dosage for three consecutive days, cats and dogs experienced no adverse effects.*

Is Advantage gentle enough to use on puppies and kittens?

Advantage is so gentle it can be used on puppies as young as seven weeks and kittens as young as eight weeks.

My pet is pregnant - can I use Advantage on her?

As with any product, you should consult your veterinarian before using it if your pet is pregnant or nursing.

Can Advantage be used on geriatric cats and dogs?

Yes. Simply "being geriatric" would not preclude the use of Advantage on a dog or cat. As with any product, pet owners with specific concerns should consult their veterinarian prior to use.

Can Advantage be used on dogs and cats in households with small children?

Yes. Advantage is backed by human and animal safety studies, so you don't have to worry about exposure to you or your family. Even at elevated doses shortly after treatment, there is no significant exposure to people from petting an Advantage treated pet. Advantage dries quickly and is gentle enough to use with households with small children.

Have you tested and can you use Advantage on ferrets, rabbits and other exotic pets?

Advantage was extensively tested on dogs and cats and found to be well tolerated even at exaggerated doses. There have been no studies to investigate its use for flea control in other species, nor has it been labeled for such usage. Owners of exotic species should consult their veterinarian for appropriate methods of flea control.
